Most gap year programs are based primarily around international travel. This means most or all of your time will be spent in countries around the world. But there are gap year programs where participants will spend the bulk of their time in the United States. Denver Gap Year is one of those programs.
We celebrate gap year programs that are based internationally and encourage the wanderlust of young people looking to find themselves while traveling and serving abroad. All of our staff have traveled and served internationally. And participants in Denver Gap Year have the option to spend 2 weeks in the Phillipines serving a nonprofit children’s organization and 2 weeks in southern Spain walking on the camino and visiting G42 Leadership Academy.
But we were also intentional in designing the program in a way where participants would spend the majority of their time in Denver, Colorado. Whether someone chooses our 4 month Fall or Spring semesters or attend the entire 8 month program they will be spending 88% of their time in Colorado.
We chose to set it up this way for many reasons:
Affordability: Being based primarily in America allows us to save the high costs associated with international travel. We pass these savings onto our participants.
One of the primary foundations of our program is to love, serve and transform the city of Denver. That’s hard to do if we aren’t here most of the time! Spending most of our time in Denver allows our participants more time to serve with our local nonprofit partners and get to know their mile high city neighbors.
We think Denver is one of the coolest cities and Colorado one of the best states in America. We designed the program to give you ample time to explore Denver and adventure all over the beautiful state of Colorado. This will be done in your free time but also via our amazing planned adventure trips.
We think the future of Gen Z will be in major urban centers around America. Data shows the trend of millennials moving to big cities accelerating in this next generation. While traveling abroad is incredible and life changing, we believe figuring out how to thrive in a big city is an even more important skill. Our program is set up to help you grow in your true identity as a child of God and effectively spread the Kingdom of God in whatever cities you decide to live in throughout your adult life.
Whether Covid-19 has caused you to look at domestic options for your gap year or if you prefer a program in the United States for other reasons - Denver Gap Year could be the right fit for you.
Furthermore in light of Covid-19 we have decided to make our international trips completely optional for our 2020-2021 program. This also means we will deduct the cost of our international trips from the total cost of our program.
